ShiZa iKapa

Years ago this theatre show started in Kayamandi, a township in Stellenbosch. When we found our way to this colorful location and met the local talent, yes, we got addicted to the songs, the people and the vibe!

These days if we want to see a show we jump in our car and head for Cape Town. Ramaine and her RBL team moved to the city and are performing now at the Rockwell Hotel theatre in Greenpoint. Of course if you go, you must make a day of it. Spend some time along the coast, at Waterkantje shopping center or at the V&A Waterfront.

We always make sure that we are on time, last Sunday we left just before the sunset and it was an amazing view driving on the N2 past Kayelitsha with Table Mountain in the background and seeing the sky changing her colors. From the bright yellow to glowing orange and indigo blue.
Something that puts a picture in my mind of a nice cocktail in the hotel bar. We park our car in the secured parking garage underneath the Rockwell Hotel, take the elevator and arrive at ground floor where the lounge is. How easy is that!
Time for a nice drink and a chat….

The ShiZa Ikapa show is a dinner-theatre show on weekday’s and Saturday and includes a 3-course meal. Starter and main are served before the show. I love the Vetkoek with the spicy mince, that is served on colorful plates just like the theatre. The main meal is served in bowls and gives you the taste of the traditional Capetonian kitchen. Dishing up means sharing with other people and it’s the perfect way connect with them … to chat with locals, tourists or the artists.

At last … it’s Showtime! Time to relax…sit back and enjoy…feel the heat and the vibe…sing, clap and dance if you like.
I love all the songs, but my heart beats a bit faster if they sing the traditional African songs that make you think of the national anthem…
Break means desert … something sweet that goes with the storyline from this season.
Oh yes every season there is a new show!

And keep an eye on the calendar for the special Sunday shows. They are in my eyes the little jewels, or the cream on the weekend cake…. Jukebox night, Motown eve, Drag Queen show….. always beautifully performed and with lots of Bling.

I would suggest that you book a room at the Rockwell Hotel, so you can have a drink… and relax after the show with your new friends and make more  wonderful memories in the most beautiful city in  the world, Cape Town!
