Where shall I start…mmm I think my most memorable visit was my first.
Driving as a tourist (searching for a house to make our move to South Africa) on the R44, with a Dutch glossy magazine on my lap…the article in the magazine read: “Visit Avontuur Restaurant, it has a beautiful view and is definitely not a place where you will find busses full of tourists… “
So that’s what we did! And we never regretted it.
I don’t know if it is… like I feel it? But we experience, after almost 10 years living here we feel like a part of the Avontuur family. We celebrate our birthdays and anniversaries there, take our family and friends from oversea ‘to show of’ the amazing view and stunning sunset. And a visit isn’t complete without the Luna de Miel, which is like the sun in your glass and it goes so nicely with my favorite dish…the Duck!
Oh I know we are boring guest…after trying out most of the menu, we now always order the same thing. We love the staff, who always welcome you with a warm smile and have time for a little chat!
So what more can I say than that it’s for years already a great restaurant and winery, thanks to Zunia and Melanie and their hardworking staff, where the food and wine will never disappoint you. Where the menu isn’t large, but of a great and constant quality. Where my men will go for Fillet in wintertime and Kingklip in summer. Mustn’t forget to mention our favorite desert; the Brandy basket, which one day was off the menu but that we could still order…and now it’s back again, or what do you think of the Deep fried ice-cream, something that leaves my son wondering how they manage to not melt the ice-cream ….
So if you decide to go there make your way up along the white iceberg roses, the paddocks with race horses. (Oh ja, I didn’t mention them before!) and the rows of vines, beautiful in every season. It makes your visit even more special…. Park your car and walk a few steps up. Take some time to taste their lovely wines in the beautiful wine bar or outside on the terrace.
Pay them a visit for breakfast, lunch or dinner (please don’t forget to make a reservation) and enjoy the tremendous view towards table mountain.
You will make memories for a lifetime…
